One thing I have enjoyed more than anything throughout my life has been teaching and helping others. I am a volunteer in the "Be A Buddy Program" that helps enrich the lives of special needs children. I assist in a special needs classroom three times a week and have enjoyed the opportunity to learn from and teach these amazing children. I was instrumental in organizing Special Olympics, which gave special needs children throughout the county a day that was all about them and their athletic accomplishments. I fractured my tibia playing beach volleyball last summer and had to sit on the bench instead of playing for my high school varsity team for two months. Although I was dissapointed I couldn't play, I seized the opportunity to be an assistant coach for both the Varsity and JV teams and was selected as team captain for Varsity. Teaching is definitely something I dream of doing in the future and I hope I’ll be able to continue to teach or coach the love of my life, volleyball.
