Lyla Pack – Personal Statement NCSA

My name is Lyla Pack and I love the game of volleyball! I have been playing club volleyball since the age of 7.  Throughout my years of volleyball, I have played many different positions (Setter, Right Side and currently Middle, though I was recently told I should play Outside because of my powerful swing and excellent timing) and have thus learned the game very well! 

This past school year, I joined a new school, American Heritage, which luckily has an amazing volleyball program (my prior school didn’t have any sports) and I made it onto the Junior Varsity team as an 8th grader playing Middle, which coincidentally was also my first season/year playing Middle.  At the conclusion of the school season, I continued to play Middle for my club team at Tribe Volleyball in Deerfield, Florida and now I am a beast in the Middle!   

In addition to taking pride in my personal play, I also strive to be an exemplary teammate and strong team leader.   My goal on any team is to not only work as hard as I can to contribute on a personal level but also to encourage, uplift, and support my fellow teammates to be the very best version of themselves!  For I understand completely that in this game, it truly takes all six athletes on the court to win championships!

When choosing a college, I am open to options, though since I am a Florida girl, climate does make a difference!  My main objective is to find a school that allows me to continue playing volleyball at a competitive level but also fits my academic needs.  Currently, I am interested in pursuing a degree in architecture and/or interior design but also keeping my options open since I have four years of high school in front of me.  My ultimate goal is to start my own business. 

On a personal note, it is important for me to continue playing volleyball at the collegiate level because of the self-confidence and mental fortitude it brings to me.  Off the court, I am very shy, quiet, and reserved.  But ON the court, I feel like I come ALIVE and am UNSTOPPABLE!
