In the beginning of my volleyball journey, I became accustomed to losing. My private middle school prioritized academics over athletics; however, at the start of my public high school, I was able to make their volleyball team. With the help of this team, I was able to taste victory for the first time. Since no one else at my house played volleyball, I would learn through YouTube videos, constantly practice against the wall, and study college volleyball games throughout the night. My new teammates really inspired me to step up and work harder to become the best player I could be.
Through playing volleyball, I have learned that I'm very flexible to change and that I am a quick learner. For example, my freshman year I played all around as an outside hitter/defensive specialist. Then, during my sophomore year, I learned how to play as a setter/ right side hitter (all around) and successfully became a starter on varsity. Lastly, currently as a junior, I am now playing as a libero while also being the captain of the varsity volleyball team. My dream is to play volleyball in college while also pursuing an education in medicine and public health. Volleyball has given me the motivation and strive to work harder and push forward, and I hope I can continue to play in the years to come.
