Personal Statement
My name is Joanna Hayes, and I am a senior this year attending Watersprings (Christian) School in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I aspire to play volleyball in college. My love for the sport motivates me to improve every time I step onto the court. Because my school and club teams have asked me to do a lot of different things, I have lots of experience in different positions, especially setter and outside hitter. My most recent varsity high school and club season I have focused on setting, running a 5-1. My high school coach says I'm extremely coachable, I have a positive attitude, I am very competitive, I have a good work ethic, I always seek to improve my own game, and above all, that I seek to elevate the play of my teammates. As a senior, I am the starting setter on my school's varsity team, one of the co-captains, and overall captain for the varsity and junior varsity teams. This season our main hitter returns from a knee injury, and as she is our most versatile hitter, I will be working hard this year at varying plays and sets. Even though I hope to be a college setter, I'm willing to do whatever my team needs for us to be the best we can be. In college, I hope to play at a school with a competitive level that will challenge me athletically as well as academically.
