Personal Statement

My name is Hannah Larson and I have been playing volleyball for 10 years. I love watching college volleyball and want to pursue playing at the college level.

I started playing when I was six years old with Valley Athletic Association in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Then I played on my middle school team during seventh and eighth grade. I enjoyed the game so much I was looking forward to playing in high school. I was on my freshman team at Apple Valley and then my family moved to Illinois where I was chosen to play on the Hinckley-Big Rock High School varsity team my sophomore year.

I joined club volleyball when I was 14 to keep playing after the school season was over to develop my skills and  was on the Apple Valley Volleyball club for three years. In the club, we played in the local power leagues and several tournaments in state and out of state. Currently I am playing for the Vision Volleyball Club and will continue to play club ball through my high school career.

I have had the opportunity to play several positions while in high school and on club. On my club teams I have always been playing middle hitter while on my high school team I have been playing outside hitter. During the summer of 2014 I had the opportunity to go to a camp and play at the University of Minnesota. This experience was eye opening because it taught me what I needed to learn to be a good volleyball player as well as an encouraging teammate. At the camp I learned how to do a topspin serve as well as float serve. I was able to improve on my serve receive as well as my blocking. I always have a great attitude on the court and a positive impact on my team through words of encouragement. I have a strong drive to improve my skills as an athlete.

I would love to be a kindergarten teacher when I grow up because I have always had a passion for helping others, especially little kids. While I lived in Minnesota I taught a Sunday school class at my church; I enjoyed working closely with the kids doing the crafts and learning the lesson. While outside of school I enjoy hanging out with my friends, cooking and sewing with my grandma, and just being around family. During my seventh and eighth grade year I was given the Citizen Scholar Award for helping my community and around my school as well as Eagle Pride Award for good grades, great attitude, and helping others in the community. In high school I was in French Club, where I was able to experience the different foods, culture, and language.
