Personal Statement
Hi! I’m Makayla Myrick and I live in Manteno, Illinois. Volleyball has been in my life for as long as I can remember. My older sister used to play and, being the youngest, of course, I wanted to be just like her. I started playing in second grade and absolutely loved everything about the game. As I grew older and changed, my love for it never did. My passion for the game stayed strong even when I didn’t make a club team one year. I used that setback to change my mindset and work harder for the next round of tryouts. Over the years, I have played every position on the court. Although I do have my favorites, I've loved every single position I tried. I feel that playing all these different positions can benefit me because I know what it feels like to be in those players' shoes, and I have learned the skills for all the positions.
I am a very hardworking person and constantly lift others, along with myself, up. I am very positive on and off the court. I’m constantly encouraging others and complimenting them on how well they’re doing. When on the court, I try to be the most energetic and upbeat person to help bring others up. I am a very coachable and well-disciplined player. I don’t take criticism to heart; I take what’s told to me and try my best to perform and show what I’ve learned.
I try my very best in school and believe that I earn the grades I receive. I currently have a weighted GPA of 4.97 and am constantly trying to not only keep it but also raise it. I am a part of the National Honors Society and have been doing community service since fifth grade to help better my village.
