Personal Info:
As the daughter of two retired Canadian Forces members, I have had to learn at a very young age how to quickly adapt to changes and how to be creative in my social and school life. My teachers and mentors were instrumental in teaching me the importance of listening and seeing that difficult situations are simply new challenges and adventures that form who you currently are and who you will become later in life. I have always wanted to show them my appreciation by working and being kind to others. The tools they have instilled in me have fueled my desire to become a mentor myself by receiving my teaching degree and becoming a school coach for this sport that I love called Volleyball.
School Volleyball:
I have subsequently played my first game of Volleyball in grade 8 on the Chestermere Lake Middle School B Team. I was known in our middle school as "Bullet" for the accuracy and force of my serves/hits. In grade 9, I made our High School Jr Volleyball team and was named starting setter and Captain. I received the "All Star Award" for my team and was also named athlete of the week for the city of Chestermere. In Grade 10 I was once again selected as the starting setter for the Chestermere High School Senior Volleyball Team and was once again name Captain. During the season I received the "Hustle and Heart Award".
Club Divisional 1 player:
In September 2017, I signed with Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club U18 team as their Libero. In addition to playing our AVA regular season schedule (attached) our team will also be playing in Vancouver from 17 – 18 February and in Kelowna from March 23rd - 25th.
For the 2016/2017 club season, I was the Libero for the Mount Royal University Junior Volleyball U18/U17 team. We placed top eight during all AVA's, Provincials and during the Nationals we were tied with NAVC for the top Alberta team ranking.
During the summer of 2016, I was selected as one of two Libero/Defensive specialist for the Alberta Selects. Our team participated at the 53rd AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida. At the start of the tournament, our coach chose the fair play rule; however, on the last day of the tournament, it was changed and I was the sole Libero for our final three games. Our team ended up winning the Crystal Division. Please see a link to our teams highlight video for that tournament. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhrBfvYDcRc&t=3s .
For the 2015/2016 club season, I was a starting OH for the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club. Although we came in second at AVA 1, our coach acknowledge that our team’s weakness was our defensive play. She subsequently asked if I would be interested in becoming our teams Libero as I had shown interest in changing position. Throughout the season we stayed in the top five teams in Alberta hitting a low at provincials and coming into 9th place. However, our team had a better showing at the Canadian Nationals and my team ranked 10th in Division 1.
During my 2014/2015 club season with Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club, our team was ranked in the top five during the season and coming into 7th place at Provincials. During the Canadian Nationals, my team came in at 17th in the Nation. I was the co-captain; one of the starting outside hitters and I received the Most Valuable Defensive Player award for that club season.
Outside Regular Practice:
To ensure I stay physically fit and prevent any sport injuries, in addition to my regular fitness program, I attend a one day a week fitness session with our Team's private trainer. Further, to ensure my school marks to not suffer because of my Volleyball schedule, I also dedicate one day of week to a math and science tutor. I have a strong reputation within the women's U16 Volleyball club as one of the strongest defensive players in the league. I have exceptional reflects and my energetic demeanor makes it that I am not afraid to run, dive or block any balls to ensure my teams gets the point.
Education:
As a grade 11 student at the Chestermere High School, I currently hold a 3.8 GPA; I have been active in fundraising activities and I helped organize our school dance. In grade 10, I received honours for both semester 1 and 2. During my time at Chestermere Lake Middle school and Chestermere High School I was selected to be the speaker at the anti-bullying campaign, for our Grade 9 graduation and I was the MC for the Remembrance Day ceremony both in grade 9 and 11. Lastly, I was selected to go on a week-long leadership camp and received a Cenovus energy certificate.
Volunteer:
I have over 50 volunteer hours working with younger volleyball players at the Alberta Winter Games, MVP Beach Volleyball club and with the Chestermere Lake Middle School.
Post Education Goals:
For my post education, I aspire to get an education degree and become a Middle School teacher/coach.
If you are interested in speaking with me, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Demeules
