Personal Statement
My name is Amanda Chew and I am a 5'11 outside hitter for the class of 2018. I have been playing volleyball since I was 12 years old and I fall in love with the game more and more every year. I currently play for South River Volleyball Club and for Northern High School's varsity volleyball team.
I have been on Northern High School's varsity volleyball team for 4 years (2014 - 2017). My sophomore year (2015), I was honored to be named the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) Most Outstanding Player, Calvert County Athlete of the Year, Northern High School Offensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All SMAC, 1st Team All Calvert County, and All Metro Honorable Mention. My team also won the 2015 Maryland 3A State title, Regional title and SMAC title. That season was incredible and I learned so much from it and became a much stronger player.
In 2015, I was selected to play on the Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association (CHRVA) High Performance team where I competed in the USA Volleyball HP Championship tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.
I am a very hard worker in both volleyball and in school. I have a 4.0 GPA and am very studious. I find time to balance both volleyball and school in a way that I can be successful in both. I'm also very coachable. Every time I step into the gym, I am looking to become a better player.
My goal is to find a college where I can prosper both academically and as a competitive volleyball player. I look forward to becoming a member of a campus community where I can contribute both on and off the court.
