Hi, I’m Sophie Vance, class of 2023 at Archbishop Spalding. I live in Maryland and some other things I do besides playing volleyball include working at Nothing Bundt Cakes Bakery, packing backpacks for foster kids through the Comfort Cases foundation, and boating in the summer with my friends. Volleyball has been a big part of my life since I was a kid,; it’s how my parents met. My family which includes my parents and two older brothers would always find a way to throw a game together on the sand when we vacationed on beaches. Before playing 14U club volleyball, I played many other sports including recreational lacrosse, field hockey, tennis and basketball as well as club soccer for 3 years. They have all contributed to the strong athlete I am today for my 17U club team. I love the level of play and want to pursue an even greater one that challenges me further. My teammates are like my sisters I never had. I have learned many things throughout my experience in club volleyball, but the one thing that really sticks with me is that your attitude on the court is not only going to affect your play but it’s also going to have an effect on all the other teammates you’re working with to take hold of the set.
