Amanda Warren '19 Recruiting Profile

Before I got into sports, I was shy and was not very outgoing. However, while trying to become more active and come out of my shell, I tried out for a local basketball league. I was not expecting much, never having played before, but I was given a confidence boost when I was chosen for one of the teams. Two years after trying out for the league, as I was preparing for one of my basketball games, I was approached by a high school volleyball player. She told me that because of my height and build, I should try out for volleyball. I did eventually try out for my middle school’s volleyball team and ended up falling in love with the sport. However, I did not want to give up playing basketball.

Playing both sports for four years on varsity, I had to learn how to manage my time so that I could improve my skills for the sports, but also keep up my grades. Even though I have been playing basketball for ten years, I kept going back and forth about whether I wanted to continue playing basketball or focus more on volleyball. In the past few years, I have grown to love volleyball more. During my time playing volleyball, I observed the team leaders and strived to encourage my teammates like they did. Because of this, I was chosen to be a co-captain for my team for the last two years of high school. I encouraged my teammates and helped them to improve their skills.
