Hello! My name is Lilli Sexton, and I am in the class of 2028. I am 5’2, and play DS/L. I live in a small town in the Upper Peninsula, so getting recognized is kind of hard for my peers and I. I never originally planned on playing volleyball, I was always into other sports like softball. I started playing volleyball in 6th grade, when my school had the “great eights,” which is a tournament in the UP where 8 schools compete in every year. As soon as I played in that tournament, I knew I loved volleyball on a whole nother level. The sport then started to become the only thing I wanted to do, when eight grade softball season rolled around, I ended up injuring my shoulder. I had a rotator cuff impingement, It happened from overworking, I then had to decide do I keep playing, or do I let it get worse? I finshed my eighth grade season and played a bit in the summer for highschool, but my shoulder was in constant pain and I couldn’t keep going with it, so I ”quit.” Freshman volleyball season rolled around and I was on JV, I started physical therapy to help my shoulder and it seemed to help. For school season, I had to share the libero jersy with another girl on my team and it made me realize how bad I want this. Competing for something I love is something I want to keep doing in the future. I played my first year of club that same year and LOVED it, I was my teams libero and the things I learned from my club coach made me see the court from a different perspective. That same coach is now coaching my clubs beach league that I participate it, playing on sand has helped me get quicker on my feet and has helped me learn how to read the court. I am now coming into my sophmore year of highschool ready to keep playing, and to keep getting better. Volleyball is all I think about, I’m obsessed with it, and i’m willing my push myself to the next level in the future. Thank you for your time!
