My name is Rachel Ward, and I am a Libero/DS for the class of 2020. I became interested in volleyball when I was 7 years old when my best friend and I started playing YMCA volleyball together, and I've played ever since. My friends and family have influenced who I am today; my mom especially. She has consistently been a great role model and is supportive of me through my volleyball journey. She continues to push me to be the best I can be, and supports my desire to play college volleyball.
I have played club volleyball for 5 years, and a varsity starter for my high school team every year. I have played every position except setter, with outside hitting and DS my two main positions. My club coaches have often called me their utility player. I am a strong, versatile player all around who thinks smart while playing. I received 2nd All-Conference Award my junior year, and the Academic Excellence Award my Sophomore and Junior years.
Through volleyball, I learned that while I am very competitive and I love to win, I learned that winning isn't everything and it's not just about me, it's about the team, creating lasting bonds, and performing and working together to achieve our goals. I have learned so much from my coaches over the past few years; about how to be a leader and always work hard, never give up. My academic goals for high school and college are to get straight A's, and always do the best I can. I've had a job for the last year while maintaining a GPA of 3.7. I'm also member of the National Honor Society and DECA. I've taken several honors classes and I'm taking some college courses my senior year.
My overall goal is to play volleyball in college competitively while studying to get a degree in Finance or Business. I want a career that I enjoy that also challenges me. Volleyball is my passion. Thank you for reading my personal statement.
