My name is Nicole Keenan, and I am a setter for the class of 2016. I just started my junior year at Sutton Public High School in Sutton, Ne. This is my third year on the varsity squad. My freshman year, I gained valuable growth and knowledge of the game as a DS. As a sophomore, I was starting setter, running a 5-1 offense leading my team to district finals. This year as the starting 5-1 setter, I was honored to lead my team to a Conference Championship, District Championship and to our school’s first State Tournament appearance since 2009.
I have been playing club volleyball since I was 10 years old. I have played club volleyball with River City Juniors, VC Nebraska and South Central. Currently, I am the setter for Nebraska One 18 Lone Wolf. My club teams have committed twice to USA Nationals and once to AAU Nationals. The more I play competitive volleyball, the more I love it!
My size and athleticism allows me to be explosive and quick on the court. As a 2 time state track qualifier, I train very hard on endurance and speed while focusing on having explosive, quick feet. When I walk into practice, I am not only trying to make myself a better player but also make my team better. As the setter and ultimately the “quarterback” on the court, I take great pride in leading my teammates to work and compete hard. At 5’6” I personally must work harder than most and I must use my knowledge of the game to outsmart those I can’t overpower. I am very coachable and show the upmost respect to my coaches. Physically, I strive to be one of the hardest working players on the team. Mentally, I never stop wanting to learn more and more about the game.
In the classroom, I study hard and maintain a high GPA. As a member of National Honor Society, I understand the importance of a great education and being a great role model to all of my peers.
I am searching for the best blend of high level volleyball and academic excellence. While my passion is volleyball, I also love to work with children. In my future, I hope to become a teacher and a coach. With my drive and dedication as a player and as a student athlete, I will be a great asset to my team and college.
