My Kumu hula (hula teacher) introduced me to volleyball. It was a simple, peppering back and fourth. That simple introduction to volleyball inspired me to tryout for my high school team as a freshman. Making the team, I fell in love with the sport. Playing volleyball 9-12th grade, I got to see my school’s volleyball program grow. Going undefeated and finishing first in our division my senior year has made want to continue my career into college.
Dancing hula, many similarities can be drawn to volleyball as well. My Hawaiian cultural ties could be great on the court. I’ve danced for Ka Pā Hula ‘O Kawaiolanoelaniokāne and hula is the language of the Hawaiian people. It requires strength and dedication; the strength and dedication that is needed to play at the college level . I’m always open to critiques to further my skills. I believe I could be a great assist to the team!
