My name is Angelina, I started playing volleyball in 7th grade. I am a 5’0 Libero and sometimes an outside hitter. I play for Cairo-Durham High School. I am currently a sophomore who started the season on the JV team, during the season I was moved up to the varsity team. At the end of the season I was awarded the 2024 Coaches award for my time while on JV. I tried out and was chosen to play for the modified co-ed team in 7th grade. I played girls modified in 8th grade. Last year ,as a freshman, I moved up to the JV team, and after 2 games I was selected to be the Libero player. As a sophomore, I am playing as an outside hitter. The experience as a libero player last year helped me gain more floor time playing and assisting the setter. This year is teaching me that I have more to offer a team than just defense; but most of all, it is teaching me that the best part of volleyball is playing as a team. Before volleyball, I was involved with competitive gymnastics for 7 years, starting in the Xcel division before moving to Junior Olympic team levels. I competed and medaled in the State Championships. As much as I enjoyed the sport of gymnastics, I did not enjoy competing against my teammates. As a team player I always stay positive and motivate my teammates. My goal for college is to gain a good education primarily in helping youth/children in either a healthcare setting or counseling. To me, education is the beginning of me becoming a self-supporting, productive, and beneficial person in society. I come from a small town and school, and I am looking forward to meeting and learning more about a variety of different people. I have always struggled with reading. From this, I have learned to better accept help, be disciplined, and not be embarrassed to ask for help when needed. I am part of the national junior honor society, and I maintain good grades and honor roll status all while being a student athlete. Playing volleyball for a college would be a dream come true!
