Personal Statement
My name is Tara Flood, I'm currently 17 years old and I am in the graduating class of 2024 at Herricks High School, located on Long Island, New York. I started playing volleyball for my CYO team when I was 10 years old, which is when my love for the sport began. I played on my middle school team in seventh and eighth grade. As my love for the sport grew so did my determination. This helped me grow into the passionate athlete I am today. Because of this determination and passion, I made my school's varsity team as a freshman, where my IQ of the game began to blossom. I am also the captain of our varsity team and this position has allowed my leadership skills to grow even more. I've also been playing on my club team, B&B Volleyball Club for the past 5 years. In my club, I am the only athlete in club history to go from the white to the black team in one year. (moved up two teams). This gave me even more of a push to never stop trying and to give 110% on and off the court, both in practice and games.
Besides volleyball, school is also an important part of my life. I always give all my effort into school even in subjects that I'm not very fond of. This hard work and dedication have gotten me into the National Honor Society. I'm also committed to programs and clubs in my school such as the Peer Partners mentoring program and I am also the public relations officer; the editor-in-chief of the Yearbook club; and a board member of the food pantry committee. I am also in the Peer Leadership program in which we work with the special needs children in our school, mentor ninth graders, help at the Ronald McDonald House, and do other volunteer opportunities.
