When I first discovered volleyball, I was in 3rd grade. My sister was planning to play for her middle school team, and I was intrigued. Immediately, I grew a passion for the sport and always had a volleyball in my hand or was always found outside trying to perfect my serve against the wall. My first year playing on a team was in 6th grade, which was the lowest grade you could play a school sport. I was a JV starter this first year and quickly found my way around the court. In my second year of middle school, I was a varsity starter after a summer full of practicing. I loved playing and learning how to play with my teammates and grow strong relationships with them. After that season ended, I was still so eager to play and continued my passionate practicing. This paid off because, in my 8th-grade year, I was offered a spot to play in the high school JV team. This season was an upgrade from middle school with the difference in rotations and more specific positions. Though it was hard, I adapted well and became an opposite hitter/ setter starter. Throughout my school season, I developed a more in-depth love for helping and learning about my teammates. This year, I also began my first year of club volleyball. I played on a regional black team (middle regional team) at my local club, Champion Volleyball. The club experience changed my perspective on the sport, and it made me fall in love with the balance of competition and respect among us players. Now in my freshman year of high school, I have finished my wonderful school season and begun my 2nd year of club. At school, I was overjoyed to receive the news that I had made the varsity team. Because I was a freshman, I didn't expect to be a starter or get much playing time, either. My attitude quickly changed as I was put in as an all-around right-side hitter, which helped me realize the importance of confidence. This year, my positions included outside hitter, setter, and right-side hitter. Currently, I am playing as an Opposite hitter on my Zonal Purple team (the highest team in Zonal). So far, it has been amazing. I love my coaches and my teammates so much and am so lucky to have been put with such amazing and inspirational people. I have realized that my passion for volleyball continues to strive the more I play.
