Hello my name is Haley McManus. I am currently a sophomore in Ohio, and I have just finished my second year on the varsity girl's volleyball team. Playing volleyball was never something that I imagined would impact my life as much as it has since I began playing in fifth grade. I am extremely passionate about this sport because it has always offered an escape from the stresses of everyday life. I believe that I am different from other recruiting prospects because when I was in seventh grade I was asked to play up with the eighth grade team. Ever since that first game playing with other athletes that were a level ahead of me I knew that volleyball is something that would take me through life. As a freshman I spoke with the coach of the varsity team and saw myself that the team lacked a setter, so that is what I set my mind to. I made the varsity team as a freshman and started as a setter out of the front row. My past sophomore season I started varsity again and set all the way around. I believe that me searching for opportunities and setting my goals high is something that sets me apart from others. I know that I am extremely competitive and I know that will set my mind to any task that is set in front of me. The concept of giving up is not something that sits well with me, especially when I see others around me do just that. I use the leadership skills that I have developed and are developing to reach out and touch everyone that I can, especially teammates. This sport has quickly become my whole life and I couldn't be happier with the way that it has positively affected me.
