My name is Alexandra (Allie) Schultz and I am a 6'0 Left Side/ Outside Hitter in the graduating class of 2025. I play for the Defensa Volleyball Club - Burlington, Ontario, Canada - on the top Purple U17 team, and I am also a member of the Ontario Provincial Team.
This past season our U16 Purple team had a fantastic year finishing as the #2 ranked team in both Canada and Ontario. After going undefeated throughout the first 3 days at Canadian Nationals, we ran into a red-hot Toronto team and lost 2-1 (15-12), winning the Silver medal. We were a top 3 ranked team all season long, winning 2 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze at Ontario Provincial tournaments. As our high school and club overlap, I also played for my high school’s varsity volleyball and varsity field hockey teams. My school volleyball team won the regional title and as the only freshman or sophomore, I was a starting OH hitter starter - I led the team in Passing, Blocks, and Kill%, and was top 3 in Kills, Hitting %, and Aces.
I was selected as an outside hitter to the Team Ontario RED team for the summer (U15 + U16 players) amongst 2500 players in Ontario. As a starting OH I helped lead my team in winning the Gold Medal at the Canada Cup vs the best 16 yrs in Canada.
In high school, last season I played on the varsity Field Hockey team as a sophomore and starter, and our team finished 5th at the OFSSA Ontario Provincial Championships.
I fell in love with this sport when I was 8 years old (watching my Dad coach his teams) and since then, it's been one of my greatest passions. I can thank volleyball for the life lessons teaching me about teamwork, confidence discipline, and commitment. Before I started playing volleyball, I played soccer, basketball, and tennis. I played these sports through the start of my volleyball career, but since then have decided to focus on Volleyball Playing multiple sports gave me the experience of dealing with different coaches and coaching styles. Being coachable and always looking to improve have been some of my greatest strengths.
At 6’0 I have a standing reach of 7’7”. I have an attack/ spoke jump touching 9’10” and a block jump of 9’7” (vertical jump 27”). I have been training with a top jump and speed coach this summer and expect my spike touch to exceed 10’ by the start of the season.
As a student-athlete, I work equally hard in athletics and academics. It is a point of pride, and my hard work has paid off. As an athlete, I am always focused and in the game. I thrive on the biggest moments of competition and my team can count on me for a timely kill or big block. No matter the score or situation, I will fight for every point and encourage my team at every opportunity. My teammates would confirm that I am constantly communicating and have a positive winning outlook despite any adversity faced.
I am a very dynamic player with quick reflexes and very fast feet. Whether on the court leading by example or off the court, I am the biggest cheerleader for my teammates and get as excited for their success on a big play, or hit. Finding new ways to develop my Volleyball IQ is very important to me. Attending camps and clinics with older players, going through the game film, studying opponents, and watching as much University volleyball as possible has helped me be a much smarter player.
I am always looking to expand my skills I have had beach volleyball training and played in tournaments at every opportunity. Though I prefer the indoor game, I continue to improve my beach play to help improve my all-around skills.
As a child of parents who played University sports (Dad – Volleyball, Mom – Soccer) I am determined and motivated to continue to play volleyball at a highly competitive level. I am looking to follow in their footsteps and my goal is to be a starting player at a post-secondary school level.
Beyond just playing volleyball as an athlete, I love to give back. For the past two summers, I have volunteered as a leader in a variety of camps for kids. Leading and teaching kids the basics of the sports I love and being able to give back to those who are less fortunate than I am, bring me so much joy.
In the classroom, I am just as focused on my studies as I am on my volleyball development. Being a busy athlete means organizational and time management skills must be utilized fully in order to succeed academically. I finished my freshman year with a 4.0 PA and was on the Honor Roll. My GPA to date is 4.0 and I especially enjoy my mathematics, business, drama, and language courses. I finished my freshman year with a 94.5% avg and my sophomore year with a 92.5% avg. When choosing a post-secondary school to attend, the strength of the academic program will be as equally important as the volleyball program.
