I started playing volleyball at 11 years old, and began club at 12 years old. From the day I started playing club volleyball, I had aspirations to play at the next level. My parents have always been my biggest influencers. They are always reminding me that I am able to “take it a step further’. They have also put in a lot of time and effort for my practices and tournaments to make sure I am able to play and improve. Another big influence is my twin sister. Since we have always played on the same team, we are constantly pushing each other to rise to the occasion.
Throughout my years playing volleyball, one lesson I am constantly reminded of is that there is no “I” in team. This lesson has helped me develop teamwork skills because I believe that it should always be what’s best for the team, even if it is sitting on the bench. I have also learned that mistakes don’t define who you are. One serving error does not mean you are a bad server, just know what went wrong and move on. I believe that my positivity, motivation, hard work ethic, and power can benefit a team I play for in post-secondary school. I put a lot of time and effort off the court as well for school. I am always focused and striving to maintain high marks.
