My name is Ellis Underhill and I am a sophomore at Wilsonville High School in Wilsonville, Oregon.
I have been playing volleyball for 8 years, and currently play for the North Pacific Juniors (NPJ) Portland 16-1 National Team. I am looking to compete at the highest level so that I can reach my potential as an athlete and volleyball player. As a 6’0”, left- handed setter, I feel that I can not only distribute the ball to my teammates and run the offense but also act as an effective attacker and defender at the net. My favorite part of being a setter is that it requires me to be a leader on the court for my team.
I am a competitive player who rises to challenges when games get tough and I absorb my losses and use them to help me become a better player. Coaches would describe me as a coachable player who is focused and determined at practice but who also trains hard away from the court. Additionally, they would say that I’m a “team first” player and a huge supporter of my teammates.
During my sophomore season at Wilsonville HS I learned quickly that I would need to demonstrate confidence and assume a leadership role so that my teammates would trust me as the setter. Our team had a fantastic season, finishing with a 29-1 record, finishing 3rd in the OSAA Volleyball State Championship tournament. My teammates would describe me as competitive, trustworthy, and committed. They would also say that I have a contagious laugh that keeps the team loose during the grind of a long season.
At school, I really enjoy my English classes because I love to write. I have also enjoyed the rigors of enrolling in AP Human Geography and AP Psychology. I look forward to similar challenges as I pursue my goal of being a student-athlete in college!
