Hello, my name is Maya Giles. I am a middle and outside hitter in both my highschool and club volleyball teams. I have always been the athletic type when I was younger, starting with being on a swim team and gradually shifting my interests into other sports. I used to be a competitive cheerleader as well, but one day when I attended a volleyball clinic with a friend of mine, I fell in love with the sport and have been playing since I was 10 years old.
When I first started playing volleyball, I knew very little about the sport, besides learning how to pass a ball. Yet with hard work and dedication I became the volleyball player I am today. One thing I have always been complimented on during practices, clinics, tryouts, or leagues is my ability to improve every time and my level of coachability.
Whenever I walk into a practice or a game, I walk with confidence and humility. As a player I always look forward to supporting my team when we win, and even when we lose, knowing that the ladder experience provides opportunity for growth and learning. Volleyball has always been something that I look forward to, as it is something I rely on in my personal life. I aspire to continue showing my improvement and dedication at a professional and collegiate level.
