Personal Statement
My name is Molly Thompson and I am a Junior Libero/DS at State College Area High School. I started playing volleyball in 7th grade and fell in love with the game almost immediately. Before I began volleyball, I was a gymnast for 6 years and also played field hockey, lacrosse, and tennis throughout that time. These sports taught me grit, discipline, and how to be an uplifting teammate, in which I carry over into volleyball today. Although I played a lot of sports throughout my life so far, I knew volleyball was special from the start. During my 4 years of playing, I have already learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and leadership, and I can’t wait for the lessons this sport will give me in the future.
What I have learned from sports has carried over to the classroom as well. Sports taught me the importance of setting both achievable and challenging goals to work closer to every day. This helps me stay motivated and focused both inside and outside of the classroom. I want to attend an academically focused school that will allow me to take advantage of the given opportunities I have.
As a player, I am kind, competitive, disciplined, and coachable. I hope to go to a college that will push me academically, as well as athletically.
