My name is Kendra Stanford and I am a freshman attending Socorro High School. Two main reasons for attending Socorro HS are their Health Professions Academy (HPA) Program and their volleyball team. I played on the Varsity Team, starting player, all around player. My primary role is as a Middle Blocker/ Middle Hitter. This year I was awarded "Newcomer of the Year" and made the 1-6A First Team All-District 2023 for volleyball. Completing the season, I am ranked 1st for Hitting Percentage in the 6A Region I District 1, 2nd in Region I, 3rd in Conference 6A, 6th in Texas, 6th in Texas High school Coaches Association and 41st Nationally. I am ranked 2nd for Total Blocks in 6A Region I District 1, 2nd for Kills in 6A Region I District 1, 4th for Serving Aces in the 6A Region I District 1 on Max Preps. As a team, we won the Socorro Invitational/ Volleyball Tournament August 20, 2024 as well as the Comanche Classic Tournament, undefeated 6-0, in Fort Stockton on 8/27/24. During this tournament, I was also awarded Player of the Match vs Marfa on 8/25/24. I also play for my club team Rapidfire Sparks 15 U. This is the fifth season with my club and we have made it to Nationals the past 3 years. We look forward to continuing to attend Nationals and look forward to winning a National Tournament! I have strengthened my skills by attending most recently, the ALL EYES ON ME ID Clinic with the Red Hat Volleyball Recruiter on February 9. 2024 in Kaity, TX and have attended the EXACT SHOWCASE CAMP in Albuquerque, NM in the summer of 2023 as well as attended the UTEP Advanced Skills Training Camp here in El Paso, TX also in the summer of 2023. During this camp I was awarded the MIP.
Socorro's HPA program offers high school students the opportunity to gain experience about jobs in the medical field before graduating. I would like to puruse becoming an orthodontist. As someone who is part of a large family, I have seen first hand the difference braces can make in one's confidence levels and their happiness. An example is my little sister Kylie. Before getting braces, she was bullied for her teeth and was insecure about smiling. However, once she received her braces and her teeth were straightened, she began to lover herself and smile more. This is when I realiized I wanted to help other people in the same way our orthodontist helped my sister. Though my schedule with busy with practices and traveling for club, I have good time management and maintain all A's in all of my classes.
Prior to volleyball, I played a variety of sports beginning with indoor soccer at 3 years of age, at the YMCA I participated in t-ball, soccer, basketball and participated in ballet in elementary school. My passion for volleyball started when I was 8 years old and I joined my local YMCA. I played at the YMCA for one year and then moved to city league volleyball. The following year I joined the RVC traveling club team and have loved it ever since. I have helped as an assistant coach to my youngest sisters 9U Volleyball team at the YMCA over the 2023 summer season. In Middle School, I attended John Drugan K-8 school where I also played Volleyball in 7th and 8th grade. I was awarded MVP for both years. We also won District Championship during my 8th grade year. I graduated Middle school as top 10 of my class. I won many awards such as the "Principals Award", "Dragon Award", Citizenship Award. I also participated in UIL and was awarded for Editorial Writing. I participated in Orchestra playing the violin for 3 years. I was inducted to the National Junior Honor Society.
I aspire to play at the collegiate level as my passion for Volleyball continues to grow. I love learning more about the sport and evolve my skills with every practice, game, tournament and camp that I attend.
