Volleyball is as big of a part of my life as my family. I consider any team that I am on, school or club, as my second family. When I was younger, sports were always a major part of my life. I have played soccer, basketball and participated in swimming, but no other sport has really stuck with me or fit my passionate and communicative personality like volleyball has. Now, as a Junior, I have gained many life skills that I could have only learned through playing volleyball. Those skills include developing mental strength and learning how to lead both on and off the court. My determination level has evolved too in that I do not give up on a skill until I master it or give up on roadblocks in life until I overcome them.
When I am on the court, I enjoy watching my teammates progress as much as I want to see myself progress. A team, as a whole, will win a game, not any one person singlehandedly. I plan to pursue Physical Therapy or Sports Medicine in college. Both of these occupational areas include working in teams and with teams. I want to play volleyball in college as well so that I can continue to develop my athletic skills, leadership ability, endurance level and tenacity.
Academically, I have always excelled in Science and in English because my mind is quick to adapt to new situations. I am not afraid to confront assignments with someone I do not know or take the lead in a group project or experiment. These attributes have transferred over into when I play volleyball. When I play, I am excited and willing to try and learn new skills. I generally pick them up quickly and efficiently. My freshman year i had a back injury that taught me I had to work ten times harder to get back to where I was initially, but the experience made me love and appreciate volleyball even more than I ever had before.
