Hello all. My name is Kara Montez and I live in the small town of Freer,Texas. Growing up in a small town has many advantages and has definitely helped shape me into the person I am today. I am currently enrolled as a freshman at Freer High School and ranked 3rd in my class (2028). This first high school volleyball season has been incredible. I have learned so much from my coaches, and my sisters on the court, and recently, I earned the spot as the starting varsity setter.
My love for volleyball started when I was very young. My mom was a 2A State Champion in 1994 and while most other children get fairy tale bedtime stories, I would get state championship stories. She would tell me about her and her team practicing late and working hard. She would take me to the high school gym to practice when she would go work with my older sister and make sure I saw her teams HUGE picture that still hangs on the wall. Then, a dream was born. I was inspired, driven by my competitive nature, to try to do the same when I got into high school. So here we are. I know it won’t be easy. It will take a lot of work, a lot of trust, and a lot of heart. But, I believe we can accomplish anything we put our minds to and I will try my hardest to lead my team to a title of our own. And who knows, maybe one day, our picture will hang on our gym wall too.
