Personal Statement
I am the youngest of four children and my two older sisters played club and high school volleyball. I was shagging balls for them from when I was four and was always wanting them to pepper with me. I don't remember not wanting to play volleyball. I play basketball and run track in high school as well but it's volleyball that I love.
I was able to play varsity as an outside hitter my freshman year. We won our region but fell short at state and we were determined to win our Utah High School State volleyball Championship the following year. However, I tore my ACL in my left knee two weeks before the state finals and could only help my team from the bench. Through the subsequent surgery and rehab, I feel I have learned to deal with pain and disappointment. I hated rehab but I learned to push through the pain and I used disappointment to motivate me to work hard to get stronger and better for this season (2016). I learned how to set long term goals and the necessity of short term goals to accomplish them. I learned patience with myself and others. I learned to prioritize. I know how to work hard and I learned that I like working hard. I learned to value relationships with family and good friends, teammates and coaches. If I had not gone through this severe injury, I don't know if I would have appreciated the rare experience of TEAM with my teammates and coaches in accomplishing our goal of winning state this year, a first for our high school volleyball program. I am also grateful I have been able help others with their struggles with what I have learned through my experiences.
For my collegiate career, I am looking for a coach/team/program that will help me continue to improve my volleyball technique and knowledge of the game. I want to feel like I am contributing to my team's success on and off the court. I enjoy being challenged.
I also am planning on focusing on pre-law or pre-medical in my undergraduate studies.
