Volleyball has been a part of my life since I was able to walk. My mother and sister both played the sport as well so it brings a sense of family and comfort on the court. Family reunions have been full of laughter and bonding over next strung between flimsy poles on a hillside. During hard times in constant moves sometimes the only thing that ever stayed constant was being on the court. Volleyball has become my home away from home and the one place that is truly ever been the same for me. My dad and I spent countless hours together on the road driving to Summer leagues, practices, power leagues, and much more. It's brought us much closer and gave us something to both be passionate about together.
I started seriously considering the sport when I was eight. I would join in my sister's club and school practices shagging, watching, and learning. during the first years and club, I was a setter. This helped me develop an understanding of the game. The third year I was a right side hitter. These past few years, numbers 4 and 5, I have been an outside hitter. Hitting outside feels like magic to me. Everything slows down and I'm in control.
My family values hard work and believes that you must give in order to receive. My dad is a strong component in my support system and he always pushes me to be my best self. He and I have formed a strong bond over the sport and our relationship has become nearly unbreakable. My parents live in separate states and it's a 3-hour drive to see my mom. There have been many times where I have been at practices or games instead of with her. In spite of seeing her once a month she still supports me.
My goal is to become a pediatrician. I take as much pride in my academic achievements as my athletic ones. It is very important to me that I stay on top of my grades and maintain a high GPA. I excel in science, math, and art.
I am a leader on the court. I strongly believe in the saying that we are a team, we win as one and we lose as one. It is important to keep spirits high and to pick up my teammates. I have a love for line. It is my most frequent shot on the outside and my comfort zone. One of my best skills is my ability to adapt to any position you place me in. I've been called a "front row libero" because of this. I am dedicated to this sport and look forward to what I can achieve.
