Hi coaches! My name is Alexa Joy, Lexie for short. My goal for my collegiate future is to combine my two passions— writing and volleyball. I have my mom to thank for both. She was a college volleyball player and journalist. Although I lost her when I was young, I continue to follow in her footsteps, and I am continuously driven forward by her creativity in life and passion for volleyball every day. Ideally, I would attend a college where I can develop and nurture that inherited interest in writing and narrative studies, particularly poetry. I am actively trying to publish my first book of poetry, a collection dedicated to my parents called Flower Shop. My preferred college would offer a place to hone my writing skills while becoming a published poet. Creativity and passion are vital to me, and aside from writing, they've made me a more versatile and dedicated volleyball player. Since I started school volleyball in sixth grade and club volleyball in eighth, I have devoted time to playing on the court as much as I can. However, I tore my ACL before the 2022 high school and club season, momentarily setting me behind many of my athletic peers. Though my recovery tested my resilience and dedication as a player, my passion and commitment to volleyball inspired me to find unique ways to train consistently to improve my setting. That experience made me significantly stronger mentally and technically. I have been a storyteller since I was a baby, whether through music, dance, or words. And I am eager to continue exploring new tools and learning from my mistakes at any opportunity. I thrive in a space where I can be myself and continuously grow as a player and a person.
