My name is Callie Curran. I am a junior at Ridgefield high school and I play S/RS/OH. Setting is my main position and what I want to pursue in college. I have a 4.0 gpa and participate in honors/ap classes. My freshman year I was on my school’s JV team and was swung up to varsity for districts and state. I made varsity my sophomore season and was the starting setter running a 5-1. Towards the end of the year I ran a 6-2 and hit RS in the front row. I have played club volleyball for 5 years and this will be my 6th. I’ve played OH/ RS/ S during my club years. My goal is to be able to compete in division 1 or 2 college volleyball.
Before I played volleyball, I played soccer and basketball. I really wanted to try volleyball because I wanted to follow in my mom’s footsteps. My mom played division 1 college volleyball for BYU. I wanted to be like her and I just wanted to try it out, so that’s what I did. Currently, I also play tennis for my school’s varsity team. Playing all these sports has definitely helped me gain athletic abilities and they have helped me grow as athlete in volleyball.
I believe I’d be a great candidate for a college team because I‘m very coachable and catch onto things very quickly. I am positive on the court and I’m encouraging towards my teammates. Whenever I am playing, I am mentally checked in and only focused on the game, which is very important during competitive times. I love playing volleyball because of the excitement it brings. I just feel so energized when my team gets a good kill, block, dig, etc. Playing volleyball makes me so happy and that plays a huge role in my desire to play in college.
