Personal Statement
I'm Ava Dettwiler. I'm a 2024 Setter. I love to compete as a team and I love working hard to win with my teammates. I'm doing the work with my family to make sure I can find a school where I enjoy being on campus, work towards a career goal in school, and play championship level volleyball. I want to find a 4 year home with all those things. My Dad was a college football coach for 15 years. We talk about the process all the time. I know how hard playing in college will be, but also how fun and rewarding it will be too.
In Volleyball, I've worked hard to have success. During COVID, I worked out with my sister and dad in our garage gym all spring and summer. I'm proud of my strength, speed and explosiveness because I've earned it. I'm proud of my vertical leap, quickness and intelligence on the court. I have started every match in High School and Club since 2019. I've played Setter and Hitter in both 5-1 and 6-2 rotations. In 2022, I was moved up to play with the 18's team while still playing with my 16's team. I played a lot of volleyball with great teammates.
In school, I like math, chemistry, science and possibly education. I've had a few tough classes in school, but still hold High Honors with a 3.90 GPA.
My Dad says coaches want student-athletes who are smart, tough, and dependable. I'm gritty and I play to win. I bring toughness, athleticism and I fight to the end. My coaches would say I'm quiet off the court, but fiery and competitive on the court.
