From the time I can remember, I have always been on the volleyball court. I grew up watching and playing with my older sisters, who are now both out of college, giving me a lot of opportunities to play with higher level athletes. Since I often practiced with my sister's teams, this prepared me for what was to come when I reached high school. As a freshman, I was a starting varsity setter and rightside at a division 1 high school. We have over 2,000 students at my school. I played all the way around, every set of every game. This was a challenge for me because in club I had been playing with the same core teammates for 3 years and now I was running the offense for an entire team of athletes that I did not know. The role of a setter requires leadership and responsibility, with which I excelled. I quickly gained the trust of my coach and older teammates. Other conference coaches noticed my skills as well and awarded me all conference honorable mention. As important to me as volleyball is, so are academics. My future goals of playing volleyball and studying to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at a program that is a great fit for me are top priority. I am successfully balancing sports and academics and hope to have the chance to continue to do so in college. As a left handed setter, I have always had an edge but that never stopped me from being diligent and pushing myself to go above and beyond what coaches expect every time I step on the court. I always try to be supportive and encourage my teammates to let me know if there is anything I can do differently to increase their success on the court. Volleyball will always be a really important part of my life and I want to play competitively for as long as I can.
