Personal Statement

My name is Emily Nielsen, and I am currently finishing my junior year at Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wi. I am a DS/Libero for both high school and club for which I have played the past 7 years. One of the main reasons I am so passionate about volleyball is I love the competitive teamwork atmosphere in the gym. Working with teammates to succeed on and of the court is a huge part of why I chose to play volleyball! As a competitor, I strive to put in the work every day to position myself for success, whether that be on the court getting extra reps and working with teammates, in the gym pushing myself to get stronger and more agile, or in the classroom making sure all my academic work is completed to the best of my ability. What I have learned from being a high school student athlete is that prioritizing school work and time management skills are crucial. While balancing school work, club volleyball, a part-time job, volunteer work, after-school activities, and other commitments, I have upheld a 4.0 GPA in all semesters and am currently 12th in my class of 372! Taking on challenging classes such as AP's and honors in school has excelled my problem-solving skills as well as critical thinking which both transfer to the court and team settings.

It helped me gain a coaches perspective on this amazing sport, allowed me to work with younger players, help strengthen their love for the sport, and remind me of the love and joy volleyball brings me. Unfortunately, the program was cut short because of COVID-19.
