My name is Cate Sloat. I am from Austin, Texas. I am currently a rising senior for Liberal Arts and Science Academy and I play for the University of Texas Longhorn Aquatics water polo team. I have been playing water polo since the start of my freshman year and quickly fell in love with it. Not only has water polo helped me find a good team as well as great people but helped me utilize learning and strategy in a sport. I had always been a long-time swimmer but when I joined water polo I became infatuated with how you can create opportunities, anticipate, and learn throughout the game. I value having a good team dynamic, resourcefulness, and being a good listener. I focus on center defense and utility. Being a player in an area where there's not always a large water polo presence I have grown to be adaptable and resilient for whatever we might face. Academically, I am seeking to study environmental science. In high school, I was given the opportunity to do a semester-long study on how ecoregions impact Macro Benthic aquatics invertebrates and that solidified my interest in the field. In my search, I am seeking to find a school that will challenge me to grow both academically and athletically.
