Hi, my name is Emma Jackson. I am currently a senior at Stratford High School in Houston, Texas, and am the Captain of the Girls Water Polo Team. I am a four-year varsity swim and a four-year varsity water polo athlete. I also play water polo for the West Houston Water Polo Club (Viper Pigeons). I am taking a rigorous AP and pre-AP course schedule, play in the Honors Orchestra, and am active in other clubs and activities at my school. I am looking for an academically rewarding school where I can continue to play water polo.
I started swimming competitively at the age of five and have gone to the Texas 6A State championships the past two years. I started playing water polo a few years back, due to the influence of my older brother, and have loved it ever since. I considered water polo my “just for fun sport” until I became completely obsessed with it during my sophomore year. That season, I had some of the best months of my sporting career and I was on such a high. Every night, I would look forward to early morning practice and playing with my good friends. I remember my excitement for our upcoming matches and loved being at the Natatorium for hours at a time playing, watching, and wishing we had more games. That season made me realize how much I love the game, and that I wanted to take it seriously.
What makes me a strong player are my years of swimming and playing a multitude of other sports while growing up. As a life-long swimmer, I have good endurance and am fast in the pool, which I use to my advantage. I have also taken what I have learned from other sports and developed those skills into my water polo game. I have watched hours upon hours of water polo matches just for fun while also learning the game play. I am good at picking up on other teams’ strategies and the habits of their key players. I am committed to playing good defense, have good pool vision, continue to increase my water polo IQ, and am a good teammate. Water polo is important to me, and I would love to continue playing in college!
