Personal Statement
My name is Sarah Callender, I am 16 and entering my Junior year of High School. I have been wrestling since 2018. I am a 2019 Rookie (folk style), Novice (folk style), and Freestyle Texas State Champion and have placed at many national tournaments. In 2021, I wrestled my Freshman year of High School in Alaska where I placed 6th at state after tearing a ligament in my elbow a few tournaments before. I took some time off to see if it would heal, but I had to get surgery on it in November 2022. I am now fully healed and have returned to the mat. Some other sports I do to stay in shape are Cross-County, Track, and CrossFit. For my future I am looking to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. At school I maintain a 4.0 GPA. I am a member of The National Technical Honor Society and I volunteer at our local hospital. Over the summer I was a Delegate at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Lowell, MA. This was an amazing experience and I learned so much about my future career path. I have also been given the amazing opportunity to shadow under the orthopedic surgeon who operated on my elbow. I am a hardworking student and athlete and I put 100% into everything I do.
