Wrestling has become less of a sport and more just a part of my life; it has been all consuming since the first day I walked on the mat. I have not won any large titles or tournaments but I continue to grow. My freshman year I was placed on the varsity team and only won one match, but this year I have won one third of my 33 matches. Over the course of this year I have been one of two captains on my team, I have lettered in wrestling, I have made it into Team Texas (competing in Duals and Fargo), and I have maintained a 4.0 unweighted and a 5.0 weighted GPA.
I have started to branch out from my team by joining a local wrestling club and by attending wrestling camps in an effort to become more well rounded in folk style, freestyle, and Greco roman wrestling. I am a perfectionist so my goal as a wrestler is not to win any one title but rather to be the most intentional and competitive wrestler possible, and I think any medal or title will just be evidence of this goal. I believe there is more to wrestling than hardware.
In pursuing a college wrestling career I would like to attend a college/university that also has an aerospace engineering program. I want to achieve success both academically and athletically. I am looking for a college team that will help me reach my goals, and eventually find new goals to reach towards.
Coach Recommendation Letter:
To Whom It May Concern,
This is a letter of recommendation for Jessica Cope, whom I proudly recommend as a potential athlete. As the Head Girls Wrestling Coach at Marcus High school, I have had the pleasure of coaching and getting to know Jessica over the past two years. She’s coachable, a natural leader, and has a great work ethic.
Her character, mindset, and willingness to help others have made her one of our most valuable athletes on our team. By radiating confidence and being an encouraging teammate, Jessica has quickly become one of our teams’ leaders. She is not only a dedicated student-athlete in season, but she continues to be devoted to the sport outside as well by joining wrestling clubs, summer programs, and making time to get extra workouts in. Her desire to continue to grow and learn in this sport makes her a great choice for any program.
This committed athlete will positively impact and contribute to whichever program she is a part of. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me via email, or by phone.
Best Wishes,
Brittany Marshall
