While most athletes will start with their stats and winning percentages, I bring those winning stats plus a lot more to the table. I have developed my own set of vision statements for growing and developing into the athlete, student and young man I want to be.
Better than I Found It: Leave all places I visit in better shape than when I got there.
Be There: Showing Up Matters. Even if I cannot give 100% because I am injured or having to* rest a muscle group. Showing up still helps me to listen, learn, support and be part of the team.
Be the One That They Turn To: Talking my teammates through their own mental battles is not only assisting them, but also helps me grow as a leader and an athlete.
Good Isn’t Good Enough: Everyone I workout with is good. Everyone I compete against is good. I want to be great. In order to be great, I cannot do what everyone else does that is good.
One More: Coach says run 10 laps or do 20 squats. Everyone else is doing 10 or 20. I am always going to do at least one more than is asked to make sure I am one step ahead.
Yes I am competitive and like to win. I want to be the best wrestler at every competition and that happens often. But wrestling is likely to only be a part of my life through college. After that the skills and character I build during these years from participating in this sport are what really matter so I am committed to focusing on winning, but doing so with character and integrity.
