Personal Statement
My name is Lance Peterson and I am currently a sophomore at Smiths Station High School, Alabama. I am a three-sport athlete, but I am a student first. I have made straight A’s my whole life and have taken all advanced/honor’s classes. I am also in the top 10% of my class and I even took the ACT as a freshman last year to ensure I get the absolute best score I can get by my senior year. I’m also in concert band and I’m an FCA Leader at my school. I am on the varsity football, wrestling, and track teams. I have been a starter in wrestling since eighth grade and I qualified for the AL High School State Championships as a freshman at 170 lbs last year and again as a sophomore this year. I wrestled in the NHSCA Nationals, SE Regionals, and numerous freestyle and Greco tournaments during the off-seasons. Also, during the summer I volunteer at a youth camp for kids with autoimmune diseases. Wrestling has been a part of my life ever since I was six years old. My older brother wrestled and my dad wrestled in college and the Army and is my high school coach. He was an intern for the Indiana University Wrestling team when I was young and he coached boxing and was an Officer Representative for Army Wrestling at the United States Military Academy, West Point. Growing up and being around that atmosphere and going to so many college matches to include the NCAA National Wrestling Championships lit the spark for me to want to wrestle at the next level. I would love to attend an academically challenging school, major in pre-med, and represent my school on the mat.
