Qualifying for the Alaska State Championship tournament my freshman year is one of the biggest achievements in my life. I’m smaller than my peers and had difficulties competing in many sports during my Middle School years. A teacher at my school recognized my frustrations and introduced me to wrestling in 8th grade. Wrestling gives me the opportunity to compete with athletes closer to my size. I’m part of a team and my performance contributes to the team’s success. Wrestling has taught me that I can overcome adversity and go the extra mile.
I’m very analytical but have a sense of humor; both are traits that were passed on to me from my parents. I love and excel in math and science in school and I’m part of the four-year engineering program offered at my school. I’m also an accomplished violist; playing for six years. Another major accomplishment in my life is being a member of the Anchorage Youth Symphony. I want to go to a school that allows me to excel in the things that I love: wrestling, engineering, and music.
