My name is Deshawn Campbell. As I have just started my senior year of high school it is time to start focusing on what my goals are for the next chapter. I have always been very active with sports. I started gymnastic when I was three and continue this for several years. I believe that this is where I gained a lot of my strength and body awareness from. When I was six someone talked my mom into signing me up for wrestling. Well, that first year I was horrible. I don’t think I won a single match. I was still doing gymnastics and had moved to a higher competition level, so the next year we decided to just stay focused on that. Then when I was eight for some reason my mom decided that we (my siblings and I) should try wrestling again. I had improved this season, but I still wasn’t very good. It took several years, almost quitting, and a coach that beloved in me before it seemed like my turning point. I was no longer doing gymnastics and my focus was on wrestling which had became my favorite sport. I did summer camps, traveled out of state for tournament, and started winning against wrestlers that had beat me for years. Now I am a three time Alaska state placer for wrestling. I am excited for my upcoming senior season. I have always hoped that I would be able to continue wrestling or sports in college. Both of my parents are teacher and have always valued my education. One thing that makes me stand out is that I am also a three time state placer (no state my sophomore year, Covid)and the current mens state Champion in Diving. I am also a state champion in Track and field for the 110 hurdles. I love to stay active and push myself. Thank you for reading about my wrestling journey.
