Personal Statement
Hello my name is Michael Fear, I am currently a junior at Casa Roble Highschool and am a 3 year (soon to be 4) starting varsity wrestler. I’ve been wrestling for almost all my life and have made it less of a sport and more of a lifestyle. My freshman year I had a 30-13 season record with 23 pins and 2 techs, achieving all league and placing 3rd in D3 divisionals and qualifying for masters; along with that I placed 6th at California USAW cadet state. My sophomore year I had a 33-18 record with 24 pins, 2 majors, and 1 tech. I achieved All league, League champ, and MVP of the GEL league. I took 2nd in D4 divisionals and qualified for masters that year. I ended up taking first at the California USAW Cadet state, then wrestling Junior state the very next day - placing 4th; a few weeks later going to Iowa for nationals and placing 8th and achieving the title of All American. I was very active with off season wrestling that year, attending weekly tournaments and going undefeated completely. I won the sawa championship triple crown and other than that had a total on and off season record of 81-23 with 45 pins, 8 majors, and 19 techs (the only other losses were from USAW state and Nationals). I would have had more matches, however my off season was cut short because of a severe concussion in greco. I was off for 7 months in recovery before I was able to step foot on a wrestling mat, I missed the last 6 weeks of school and missed my chance to attend the 2019 28 day intensive Jrob camp in Wisconsin. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever want to wrestle again after that, but I knew I couldn’t let my team down like that. I’ve been a captain since my freshman year, and captains don’t quit. Besides, I still needed to prove everyone wrong that ever said I couldn’t. After recovering, I finished my Junior year with a record of 29-10 with 21 pins and 1 major. I achieved All-League and D4 champion, along with that qualifying for masters. I also placed at a few big tournaments such as the Sierra Nevada classic, taking 5th in a 68 man bracket.
