My name is Terry Brannigan. I go to Staples High School in Westport Connecticut. I've been wrestling varsity for my team since my freshman year and was the only freshman with a winning record by the end of the season. I went into high school wrestling with only a very basic understanding of the fundamentals. Despite giving up on the sport and having not wrestled in over two years, I decided to give high school wrestling a try. I was fairly successful and I was improving quickly. Over the summer I went to almost every clinic or camp I could find including an intensive camp at Cornell University for an entire week where I was taught by wrestling legends Kyle Dake, Gabe Dean, and soon to be all-American as a true freshman Yianni Diakomahalis to name a few. When the school year started, I decided to join the cross country team for the fall as a way to get ready for the wrestling season. By the end of the fall, I was one of the faster kids in the boy's group which had over 100 kids. My work over the summer paid off as I finished my next regular season with a record of 30-9. I went strong into postseason; placing third in counties, and fifth in the state qualifiers. At states, I went 1-2. I ended my sophomore career with the second-best record on the team. I'm working hard this summer and attending Cornell camp again. I also am training with a club in new york called GPS and I'm going to tons of clinics with D-1 college coaches. I hope to do very well this coming junior year.
