I have been wrestling for 11 years as I started when I was five when my tykes football coach suggested the sport as an off season activity to keep fit. However, after experiencing the environment of the wrestling room and being lucky enough to have older kids that were willing to work with me, my love for the sport was sealed. I wrestle year round and cannot imagine my life without it. Because I have been wrestling for so many years, even though I am only a sophomore, most of my teammates look to me as a leader on the team. I am always willing to help them work on moves, listen when they need someone to talk to, or just be in their corner when they need cheering on. I love the fact that wrestling is both an individual and team sport.
I feel that I would be an asset to any college team due to my dedication, drive, and the support I offer my teammates. After placing fifth at the Illinois State Tournament as a freshman, my goal this year is a return trip and higher placement. I will be wrestling Greco and Freestyle this summer and am looking for a third trip to Fargo. My drive is also reflected in my academics. I am hoping to continue to make the high honor roll each semester and be invited to join the National Honor Society chapter at my high school next year. I have always pushed myself just as hard in the classroom as on the mat because academics have always been important to me. I feel if your failing in the classroom you will be failing in sports as well as life.
