Personal Statement
I started wrestling when I was in second grade. I didn’t win a single match until I was in 7th grade. This year as a high school freshman, I received a varsity letter, and placed fourth as sectionals. I love this sport. Losing so much when I was young was hard, but I think it made me a stronger person and competitor. I enjoy the work involved in being a wrestler.
I go to church regularly, and I believe doing the right thing is important. Right now, my priorities in order are God, family, academics and then athletics. It has been drilled into me for a long time that you need to be a gentleman first, and then a scholar. If you do those things, you will be allowed to be an athlete.
My goal for high school wrestling is to be a state champion and earn a college scholarship. I feel I can do this through hard work, and being a good teammate.
Once in college, I will continue to work hard, and plan to compete for a national title, regardless of what division my college is in.
