Committed to WVU (September 13, 2013); GO MOUNTAINEERS!!

My high school career record is 157-15.

This season I won my second Maryland State Championship, finishing my high school career with 157 wins, which places me in a tie for Fifth All Time in Maryland Public School history for career wins. (MPSSAA ( http://www.mpssaa.org/wintersports/wrestling )) My personal record was 44-2 this season, with twenty pins, three tech falls, four major decision, eight decisions, nine forfeits and two losses.

Last season, I ended my junior year with a record of 43-2: twenty-one pins, five tech falls, three major decisions, eight decisions, six forfeits and two losses. I am right hand dominate and I tore my right elbow ulna ligament defending against a take down in the first period of my state semi-final match, which I lost 11-9 in OT.  However, I wrestled back for a third place finish in the 113lb weight class using only my left arm. I lost my ability to use my high crotch, my cradle, cross face, wizar with my right arm for my final eight periods of wrestling.  I could not touch my nose with my right hand and my right grasp was all but gone.  You can see my third place match (consolation finals) at the following link and notice that I do not use my right arm above my waist: http://mpssaa.playonsports.com/events/53164 I am the second match on this video. I was in a cast for four weeks following states and got it off April first. I was released April 29th, 2013 by my orthopedic doctor to resume athletic competition.  I took my SAT earlier in November 2013 and scored: Reading - 530; Math - 480 and Essay - 490; 1010 Reading/Math or 1500 total.  I attended some great wrestling camps this summer at Messiah and at Edinboro (Fighting Scot camp). In addition, I have had eight session of strength and conditioning by a certified trainer.  As a result of my injury, I did not get to participate in Junior Nationals at Virginia Beach. or Fargo this summer. I joined the cross country team this fall and we took 2nd at the Maryland 1A Championships.  This was my first year running and was awarded, "Best New Runner" at our recent banquet.  My fastest 5K was 20:03 which is not spectacular but for a smaller built wrestler....not bad.  I was happy with our team results and my performance.

Training

  • Youth Experience
  • 6 years
  • As a youth, my father drove me to Pittsbugrh to train under Olympian Sanshiro "Sunny" Abe who was also an NCAA 4X All American for Penn State and a National Champion. I trained under Sunny for over two years until he moved to Carnagie which was further away from my home. My father was already driving me 90 miles one way, three nights a week to practice there and we would do my homework on the ride up. I wrestled every weekend for two years in Pennsylvania tournaments as a part of the Pittbull wrestling team. When Sunny left, John & Jodi Strimatter took over in Murraysville, Franklin Regional High School youth with their Young Guns team for another tow years. Jody Stritmatter wrestled for Iowa and was a National Runner-up, his brother John won several DII titles to University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. During those two years, I traveled with the team and wreslted free style and Greco under their leadership, wrestling in many freestyle and greco tournaments in Pennsylvania. In addition, I was a member of the Maryland National Schoolboy team that competed in Indinnapolis in 2009 and 2008. In 2009 I went 4-0 in Greco competition. I trained for the Maryland National team under the direction of Cary Kolat. Cary is known for his Olympic and World Team participation, being a 2X National Champion for Loch Haven and being an undefeated 4X PA High School champion. Under these coaches, I was able to obatin great instruction, have great partners, enjoy a great experience such as wrestling in the same room with Nico Megaludus and Jimmy Gulibon. I was able to travel the country and place in the top eight in my weight class a total of seven times at the following National Tournaments: Tulsa Nationals, Ohio Tournament of Champions, MAWA Eastern Nationals, NJ War at the Shore, Elementary Nationals and I earned a championship at the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Colorado. I have been instructed in summer camps by: Mark Perry, Brad Patacky, Brian Morrow, Greg Jones, Sanshiro Abe, Cary Kolat, Keith Gavin, Drew Headly, Zeke Jones, Troy Letters, Matt Valenti, Brad Patacky and Troy Nickerson. My wrestling teeth have been cut and polished mainly through Western Pennsylvania, especially Pittsburgh as a youth.
