Personal Statement
I got a late start in wrestling in the 6th grade in Arlington, Virginia. I was involved in many other sports at the time, but decided to try wrestling when it was offered in middle school. After 6th grade, I moved to Traverse City, Michigan, where there is much more of a wrestling community. At the end of the 7th grade, wrestling became my favorite sport because I liked the aspect that you get out of it what you put in. By the 8th grade I was improving a lot and ended the year with the WAAM (club) 8th grade state championship. By the 8th grade I was a good wrestler, but each year I am making significant leaps in my technique and physical ability.
I will be an asset to a college wrestling program because I am self-driven to be my very best and put in the work to ensure I am getting better all the time. A point of pride is that I have only lost more than once to one other wrestler... every other loss, I have defeated my opponent when we wrestled again. An example of my commitment is this summer and fall I am driving 5 hours round trip, 4 days a week, to an elite wrestling program in Grand Rapids.
My goals for this year, my Junior year, is to win a Michigan State Title, and for my Senior year is to go undefeated and win another State Title.
Academically, my goals are to perform well in school and increase my GPA where I can.
My freshman year I had a decent wrestling season (28-19). I lost in a close blood round match at regionals (state qualifier) by one point. My sophomore season (47-9) I took second place in the region and qualified for the state tournament. At the state tournament I lost another close blood round match by one point. I let both those losses drive me to be the best wrestler I can be and work hard through the off season.
