I was taught at a young age that the difference between a dream and a goal is showing up every day and putting in the work to make it happen. I show up everyday with that in mind. Nothing is just practice, it's all preparation.
I love wrestling. I'm not ready to give it up! I had an amazing season last year. I was beating everyone and felt like I was on top of my game. Right up until the first week of January when I had a serious ankle injury. They didn't know if I've be able to compete again all year. I did what the doctors said. I rehabbed like crazy and was careful, stayed on my crutches unless necessary. The strategy was to make it to the state tournament without re-injury. I did everything I could and played it safe. I made it to state and got through the tournament without re-injury. That also meant not finishing at all where I wanted to. Knowing I could only compete at 60%, I stuck with the plan. I was going to have a mediocre performance at state and I'd be ready in time for Nationals and the summer freestyle season.
Then COVID happened. And nothing else happened.
So now I've had 6 long months to appreciate how much wrestling means to me. Since May I've been wrestling full-time at Pinnacle, but not being able to complete or be part of a team has been rough. I am ready to commit to a team and get back to wrestling as soon as possible.
