How’s it going my name is Luke Scholz. I am a junior from Cranford high school in New Jersey.I am a dedicated wrestler in which my goals and aspirations drives me to continually improve year after year. Starting from my true freshman year I beat various state qualifiers throughout the season ending with a 36-5 record.
That summer drove me to improve. I wrestled on New jerseys national team going 4-1. Then I attended Fargo.
My sophomore season I ended the season qualifying for states and going 2-2 at the NJSIAA state tournament. This again drove me to continue to improve and I ended up beating various state placers throughout the summer. I made team NJ for a second year again and had the opportunity to wrestle at the National Duels and ended 5-0 in Greco being an all American. Also going 6-2 in freestyle (beating 3 state placers). I then qualified for Fargo with a 4th place finish at the North East Portuguese qualifier. At Fargo I went 5-2 (cons of 8) losing 5-5 criteria to the eventual 3rd place finisher. Again improving but falling short of a podium finish. I feel as I am improving but yet to hit my goals.
My junior year I beat multiple state placers throughout the season. My year started at the beast of the east where I ended up taking 6th place. On my path to the podium I beat a 2x pa state placer (d1 commit), another pa state placer (d1) commit, and a NJ state medalist. I had a barn burner during the season with the eventual state champ and was given national rankings. My year ended at the state tournament going 2-2, one tournament does not define me which I know and have shown that I can compete at the highest level.
So far this offseason I competed at Journeymen taking 5th place beating a NY state placer, I also competed at the US open going 4-2 tech falling a 2x Ohio state placer who is also a 2x Fargo all American 3rd and 4th who has been nationally ranked, and a VA state finalist, 2x va state medalist. I then lost to an Indiana state champ, who’s nationally ranked 13-9 which came down to the wire.
In the practice room I compete with division 1 recruits and nationally ranked wrestlers. My wrestling style is influenced by my judo background where I'm very comfortable with hip throws and under hooks. I feel like this separates me from most kids because I can stay dangerous throughout the whole match. At 16 years old I'm still growing. My performance on the mat is peaking each year. I am dedicated and want to continue wrestling in college for my love of sport. I am eager to bring my skills and dedication to the collegiate level where I can continue to develop as an athlete and a student. I feel with the right program I can achieve my dreams and goals and grow in a sport that I love while still having fun doing it.
