My wrestling career started in the 2nd grade and I immediately loved the sport. I wrestled with the Pascack Valley Jr. program through the 8th grade winning two awards; Indian Warrior Award in 2013 and the Coach Gary Beyer Dedication Award in 2016 plus received the Ironman Indian - Gold Medal Award for many years of hardwork, dedication and sportsmanship.
When I entered high school, I joined a strong team and with several skilled upperclassmen in my weight brackets. The coach still gave me opportunities, I had my first varsity win freshman year and won the BCCA Freshman County Wrestling Tournament at 182 lbs. I had several varsity matches sophomore and junior year with more success. I took first place in the Ridgefield Park JV Tournament at 195 lbs. Although a senior had wrestled most of the season at 220 lbs, I was provided the chance to wrestle at Districts. This was a great experience for me, as the 8th seed I was able to beat the 1st and 4th seed, place 2nd at Districts and advanced to Regions.
Wrestling has built my confidence and character over the years and is one of the few sports that you win or lose alone on the mat, yet you contribute to the team. Wrestling has always felt like my extended family and I realize it would be great to continue wrestling through college. I like the idea of the structure and comradery that a sport provides.
